there’s a piece by time contributor michael elliot, the author of a piece on trying to make sense of the demonstrations in the near east. the dude has decided that an african country like sudan is only partially in africa–that the north half is in the middle east.
isn’t that what the british empire did back in the day? convince the africans on the continent of africa that they weren’t all africans but that some were and some weren’t and that their various religions were anathema to each other?
not that we have a PhD is world history. we don’t actually know much about africa. but we do know that geographically, the continent of africa stretches (north-south) from the mediterranean to the cape of good hope. or whatever that bit of water is called around south africa.
