the black community in the u.s. has unemployment rates not seen since the depression era. but this did not stop african americans from voting for barack obama and democrats in staggering numbers. in places like philly some wards reported obama winning 99% of the vote. so now that the DNC and the GOP know that the black community’s vote is 100% in the bag for the dems what’s the point in even making promises even if they weren’t planning on keeping them anyway?

the obama amdinistration supressed an attack by iran. according to cnn (aka the clinton news network), last week “Two Iranian Su-25 fighter jets fired on an unarmed U.S. Air Force Predator drone in the Persian Gulf last week.” unfortunately cnn and the other networks also supressed this news.
in this article explaining why guantanomo bay won’t be closed as per barack obama’s campaign promise, the journalist allister bull or his editor makes the point of inserting ‘reluctantly’ into the following statement please note the italics are ours:
‘President Barack Obama, in a setback to hopes for the quick closing of the Guantanamo Bay prison, reluctantly signed a bill on Friday barring suspects held there from being brought to the United States for trial.’

for us at ablogaboutwhatever it was always clear that git-mo could not be closed. because the question was always, where will you put these guys? no state in the u.s. wants them. not even the governor michigan.
the most obvious choice would be to send the prisoners back to their home countries. but some of the prisoners are technically american. it is what spaulding grey (RIP) would’ve called, a slippery slope.
bill richardson, who recently declined to pardon billy the kid (never mind that billy was gunned down in what 1881) just might be the guy to push hillary clinton out of the u.s. secretary of state seat–aka the prez’s look i believe in diversity spot. not that we care, but when was the last time one saw a waspy guy in that slot? we may have to go back to 1992 when bill clinton initially took office.
why did this turn into the hot seat for diversity? with the exception of madeline albright, (who bill clinton appointed during the height of the monica lewinsky sex scandal to manipulate the media and give them something else to discuss since he made albright the first female to warm that seat), almost everyone has had stellar credentials–colin powell, condi rice, etc. and bill richardson served at the united nations and has first rate credentials as well.
the bigger question is why wasn’t hillary clinton pushed out immediately after wikileaks started dripping state department documents? is barack obama still afraid of the clintons? and female voters in the democratic party? does he now believe that he doesn’t need them anymore?
the l.a. times quotes goldman sachs’ chief economist as saying in 2011 the u.s. economy will be: ‘fairly bad’ or ‘very bad’. this forecast is burried in a story about bobama’s chances for re-election in 2012.
david cameron and his wife are on their way to the white house for the first time since he became prime minister. will david cameron be honoured with a state dinner or get the boot from obama like gordon brown to underscore the existence or non-existence of the uk-us special relationship?
dimitry medvedev, president of russia, met with barack obama yesterday in dc. the staged photo op of the two chowing down on burgers is quite unlike the reception george w. bush used to give to dignitaries. but we guess obama wants to prove he is a man of the people. according the reuters, medvedev is quoted as saying about his burger, ‘probably it’s not quite healthy. but it’s very tasty. you can feel the spirit of America.’
the economist this week refers to barack obama in its cover story article as vladimir obama due to the recent governmennt shakedown of BP. has the u.s. government gone too far by insisting BP handover the u.s. government 20B dollars in an escrow account that BP will have zero control over?
tony hayward, ceo of BP, who was treated really badly by the u.s. congress last week, is on his way to bow at the feat of vladmir putin and dimitry medvedev to reassure him and russian industry that BP won’t go belly up. this is important as russia supplies 25% of BP’s oil.
what is up with obama’s thing for unattractive, overweight women? with the exception of harriet meier, george bush the younger appointed and nominated an endless stream of good lucking women to his white house. remember dana perino and condi rice? now we get janet napolitano, sonia sotomayor and elena kagan. and let us not forget the u.s. surgeon general. what the white house really needs is a little size as well as religious diversity.
elena kagan, who might be u.s. prez barack obama’s supreme court nominee has never been a judge, argued her first case in court last year as solicitor general of the white house, work as an advisor to goldman sachs, and according to mother jones: ‘Somehow, Kagan got tenure at Chicago in 1995 on the basis of a single article in The Supreme Court Review — a scholarly journal edited by Chicago’s own faculty — and a short essay in the school’s law review.’
the mother jones journalist goes on to point out that in his/her opinion if obama feels the need to chose another woman he should chose the protestant diane wood who has a paper trail that includes writings and rulings on roe vs. wade. while kagan has only written maybe 3 articles between when she became a law professor at the university of chicago to when she became dean of harvard law school.
will she be confirmed? between the rumours about whether or not she has ever let a man get a leg over her, her never having been a judge, and her having tried to prohibit the military from recruiting at harvard, well…it sort of seems like the obama administration is throwing multiple demographic groups a bone, including those presently enrolled in obesity anonymous, while marching kagan to the lions. we think obama will end up nominating a man. this of course does not mean kagan isn’t smart. although everyone in the world has heard about ivy league grade inflation.
but in the end it could be elena kagan’s ties to goldman sachs that hurt her most. you know, the bank that sold its customers financial products created for them by a hedge fund and the hedgefund then bet against these products and made loads of money
