will there be a third x-files film? the last film ‘i want to believe’ bombed at the box office. but some fans are holding out hope. december 22, 2012 is an important date on both the myan calendar and in the x-files mythology.
but the question is does the x-files have the staying power of say star trek? star trek was only on for 3 years (initially) and then it was cancelled. while the x-files was on for 9 years.
the show, much beloved by fans, spawned one successful feature film. but 2008′s ‘i want to believe’ was a dogget of a film, that quickly faded at the box office.
so where are the fans now? dispersed across the internet. hanging out in forums. meeting up at star trek stammtisches. but why did they avoid the last film?
some say it’s because the film sucked. i’m on board for that one. others say it’s because david duchovny and gillian anderson should be permanently confined to the little screen (aka your TV) and not the big one.
but the fans are there. they’re just a bit older. maybe a re-release of the series on blu-ray might get people going.
but rumors abound that putting this series out on blu-ray, which apparently ended prior to fox switching to HD might be a dog of a nightmare. maybe all the effects will have to be fixed. and some computer genius is going to have to work wonders on the SD masters as someone online recently posted because although the series was shot on film, it’s been archived on SD .

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009
this post is coming a bit late. –24 june, caught an updated version of ‘a doll’s house’ at the donmar theatre (warehouse) in central london. the henrik ibsen play had been somewhat updated and is now set in the uk. nora is the wife of a politican whose a member of parliament. the cast includes tobey stevens, christopher eccleston, and gillian anderson as nora. more details about the play later. the donmar warehouse is an intimate, relaxed place to catch a play. ‘a doll’s house’ has gotten good reviews which are highly deserved. even tobey stevens, whose sort of a terrible film actor (emphasis on film) was good.

remember the first season of the x-files, brilliant piece of small screen cinema that it was, when scully was well, dowdie and shapless. she walked through the second half of the season in a trench coat. then it seemed like she spent the next 7 seasons trying to effectively erase that look. now that the second x-files film is due well, gillian anderson is pregnant with her 3rd child. let’s just hope the film is fantastic and it reverses all those horrible duchovny films we’ve witnessed since he abandoned the show in season 7 (or was that 6) like ‘things that we lost in the fire’.

the x-files, like the simpsons, is what i most remember about the 1990s. it was a show that gave the world a female scientist in the gise of scully, and fox mulder, a man who liked to follow his instincts. read more about the forthcoming film.
