highspeed rail coming in fits and burps to the u.s.

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

i believe it was christopher caldwell, writing in the financial times who pointed out that the initial stimulus package that passed the u.s. house of representatives (before it went ’round a second time) neglected to allocate spending for a highspeed rail network. this was pointed out on ‘a blog about whatever’ as well.

well, apparently $28B has been allocated to this endeavour, according to the washington post. but is that really enough money to lay track from coast to coast and create a hub and spoke system on the ground that would rival what delta has in the air?
