fox news hosted the most recent republican debate on december 15 in iowa –site of the first presidential primary. during the debate–the second without herman cain, the participants were asked the electability question. to which ron paul replied, anyone on the stage could defeat barack obama. watch the full debate here.
you can watch yesterday’s (december 19) republican debate here that took place at drake university. unfortunately abc would not allow john huntsman to participate because he didn’t meet their polling requirements. which is a total scam. newt gingrich, michele bachmann, ron paul, mitt romney and the 2 ricks–perry and santorum were in attendance. we’re just waiting for the day when the 2 ricks do a rick roll. herman cain was not in attendance.
the answer to this headline is a mixed bag. if one looks at statistics, the unemployment rate for african-americans in the u.s. are at levels not seen since the great depression. we will examine this question from time-to-time over the course of the next 12 months leading up to the u.s. presidential election. so we dare to ask, now that gringo guilt is over are things better or worse for minorities in the u.s.?
there are those who believed that when suddenly loads of states decided to move their primaries up that this would have a positive effect on mitt romney’s campaign.
as the theory goes, the democrats like to look for new meat in their primaries while republicans let different candidates court them, yet ultimately go for the person with the brand name. in 1980 ronald reagan beat george w. bush. in 2000 george bush beat john mccain and in 2008 mccain won the gop’s primaries.
so when newt gingrich imploded last summer and seemed to be wallowing in the 5 – 10 % wilderness for the next few months, the u.s. press along with the uk press (namely the economist–which should be ashamed of itself) decided to hand the mantle to mitt romney.
but is he a brand? this is the question.
fox news broadcasts the republican presidential presidential forum tonight at 8pm EST –that’s east coast u.s. time for those of you who don’t know the difference between GMT, CET, EST, etc. mike huckabee is the host. watch it in full here if you miss it. update: john huntsman and hermain cain did not participate.
the first presidential primary of the 2012 election is less than 5 weeks away and the 2 dudes who have risen to the top are named mitt and newt. but mitt romney seems reluctant to take off his mits as he has declined to participate in a lincoln-douglas style debate (see our previous post) with newt gingrich. if romney suddenly breaks down, the event is tentatively scheduled for december 19.
