korean unification

Sunday, March 5th, 2017

it is a topic that is rarely spoken of. but is this possible? in 1989 on the 200th anniversary of the french revolution, the berlin wall fell, the soviet union broke apart and west and east germany began the process of re-unification. 2017 is the 100th anniversary of the russian revolution, the 500th anniversary of the reformation and the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the sino-japanese war. these topics have very little to do with asia. although the leitmotiv of russian history centers on the question, is russia european or asian? as the country buffers both  continents and the communist revolution was the shot torpedod around the globe. according to the bbc website south korea has announced it is increasing the rewards offered to north korea defectors with additional incentives for members of the miltary. this announcement follows the (on going) fall out from the assasination of kim jong nam–the half brother of the north korean dictator, kim jong un, at an airport in malaysia by 2 women using vx nerve gas. last year the economist took a look at the advantages of korean unification.
