kathryn bigelow, who was savvy enough to stipulate that james cameron produce 3 of her films as part of their divorce settlement won an oscar for best director and best film on sunday. she’s the first woman to take the director’s award and the first woman to do a hat trick.
it’s a shame that the film is not as good as avatar, which should’ve at least won best picture. we’re so tired of iraq war movies. but we love kathryn.
kathryn bigelow will be directing a pilot of cable TV. which is a good thing, since it’s not cable, its HBO. let’s hope she’s also a producer on the series.
it’s great that she didn’t get too drippie about being the first woman to win a dga award. it’s a shame that she’s still only one of a few who is making films she wants to make and not that society wants her to make (woman themed films with a feminist spin). she looks fantastic at 58 and we give hats off to her and sigourney weaver for not caving into going under the knife and refusing to wear tent dresses to awards shows.
kathryn bigelow is one of the few women directing action films. in this interview she discusses the hurt locker with charlie rose on the u.s. t.v. show, the charlie rose show. or is it just now called charlie rose. go figure.
